Hey, remember that awful pitcher that was on the Mariners last year? The one that signed a massive contract and then proceeded to whittle his time away on the bench with a bottle of Wild Turkey. Mariners fans – what’s his name again?
Oh yeah, Erik Bedard.
He’s that guy that you traded Adam Jones, George Sherrill and other for. Luckily, he’s doing well this season, but that means he’s a big slice of trade bait.
According to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, Mariners fans would be thoroughly disappointed if the team capitulated to the certainty that they WON’T make the playoffs by trading away their ace pitcher. It sort of makes sense because that would mean that the team traded away five prospects for, most likely, less than five prospects in return for Bedard now. His trade value went down big time after injuries and a sourpuss attitude was one of the many factors for the team completely blowing last season.
My starting bid on Bedard value? $1.
